Who would have thought that a flute could rock? But that's just what Andrea Fisher, a.k.a."Fluterscooter," does. A serial fusionist and a fierce non-traditionalist, her stylistic penchant is to take classical music and contemporize it with rock, hip hop, jazz, and/or world music elements. Blessed with perfect pitch and a graduate of the prestigious Juilliard School of Music, she has all of the technical facility of the world's finest flautists."I've always been somewhat of a renegade when it comes to music," she explains."I always wanted to standout. I want to be a rock star!" Fluterscooter's eclectic excellence has already led to her performing with famous respected musicians such as soul star John Legend, jazz great Herbie Hancock, hip hop star 50 Cent and rock star Ian Anderson of the band Jethro Tull. Her music is featured in the soundtrack for the popular video game"Grand Theft Auto IV." She's performed"The Star Spangled Banner" on both coasts for Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks basketball games.Born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, she is a child prodigy."There was a piano in our house which I started playing when I was 2," she begins,"just stuff from the radio. Then my mother signed me up for lessons and my teacher discovered that I had a real gift. In grade school, I picked flute because I liked the sound and it was the lightest to carry. Music came very naturally to me. I could pick up any instrument and learn to play it basically in a week or two. I played bassoon, organ, guitar, and ethnic flutes with totally different scales. I was motivated and focused from a very early age - and still am."After graduation, Andrea found herself being called in for recording sessions by hip hop producers who wanted to add live instruments to their mixes."They really opened my eyes and ears," she admits."I'd never listened to much hip hop, but I really got into it and found cool stuff that I could incorporate into that music." The highest profile of these gigs was with singer John Legend, on his sophomore CD, Once Again, and co-production on rapper 50 Cent's third album, Curtis, in 2007. She also solos on Legend's DVD Live from Philadelphia. She has even designed a chic line of flute bags."I got the idea to create the collection because I have such a beautiful flute and I want the outside to reflect what is inside. This is for the flutist who is both stylish and practical. The collection is also unique as a fashion accessory that could inspire young people to play the flute just to have one!"
