专辑简介

This album contains some of my favorite songs dedicated to my wife and son, and to you the listener. I engineered the recording myself from four different locations and four different pianos. They are live performances without edits, overdubs, or click tracks - just as I played them from beginning to end. God Bless the Child is a standard composed by Arthur Herzog Jr. and Billie Holiday, and made famous by Billie Holiday. My take on the song is a little more upbeat than usual, with blues and gospel influences.Bernie's Tune is a standard composed by Bernie Miller, and made famous by Gerry Mulligan. My performance features very fast tempo with elements of stride piano.I Loves You Porgy is from Porgy and Bess, the famous African American opera by George Gershwin, Ira Gershwin, and Dubose Heyward. I tried to capture the sadness of this song and was influenced by Nina Simone's famous recording.I composed Halloween Song on October 31, 2012. It has a haunting melody with very dissonant harmonies. The unusual and strange chord structures just seemed to come to me when I sat at the piano.Stars Fell on Alabama s a standard by Parish and Perkins. My arrangement has elements of stride piano and utilizes the extreme upper register of the piano for select sections of the song's beautiful and classic melody. My version of Django by John Lewis captures a certain sadness that I associate with the song, although the Modern Jazz Quartet's recordings are more upbeat and bebop-oriented. My piano arrangement is fairly simple with perhaps some suggestion of the Cuban bolero style. All the Way by Van Heusen and Cahn is a standard made famous by Frank Sinatra and many others. I used a quasi-classical approach to the song, playing it as I imagined a studio orchestra might perform it.There Is a Balm in Gilead is a traditional African-American Spiritual with a message of healing and hope. My simple piano version is a meditation on the song's lyrics.
