专辑简介

"Haunted Summer, Volume One" is the first of three musical vignette EP's to be released this year, once again bringing together Paul Ybarra on vocals and John Boswell on arrangements and piano.Recorded entirely in Hollywood, CA, the recordings themselves are just voice and piano, in contrast to the lush orchestration from their first effort (In The Stillness of Remembering) in 2014."We wanted to create a much more primal and raw offering this time", says Paul."It was important to keep the energy primal, raw; we did these in just a few short takes for each song, and we liked the unmixed feeling the simple use of piano and voice created. We really wanted to show the blood and veins of these beautiful, haunting songs."The rawness is real, and you can really hear it and feel it. No tuning or filters are used on any of these songs, just the real soul in this project: voice and piano.John Boswell's new arrangement to Donna Summer's"Bad Girls" is completely re-imagined, turning a dance anthem into a bittersweet requiem love song."It was the hardest song I've ever had to sing," confesses Paul."Donna Summer is so close to my heart, and with John's beautiful arrangement, we created something very special and unique."Sammi Smith's"Saunders Ferry Lane" has retained it's achingly beautiful darkness."It was the first song we recorded for this project. I love Sammi Smith, and this really is a homage to her. It really set the tone and direction for"Haunted Summer." Dolly Parton's"The Bargain Store" also retained it's haunted feeling, and it's a song close to my heart. It took me damn near a month to learn this song without completely breaking down. I'm so pleased with the finished product, and again, with John Boswell's piano, it becomes a duet.""Haunted Summer, Volume One" is available in digital download format only at this time, and debuts on May 17th, 2016.
