Born in the heart of Southern suburbia, Jay Kucia fell in love with music at an early age. His parents would always play classic country music during his childhood so while other kids were admiring sports stars and actresses, Jay was looking up to country legends like Garth Brooks and Shania Twain. When he began to explore music on his own, Jay discovered the great singer-songwriters of the 1970's like Carole King, James Taylor, and Carly Simon, and these artists began to inspire Jay to make his own music. During high school, Jay was a self-proclaimed"awkward aardvark" who never felt quite part of the crowd. He channeled his adolescent angst through the music of alternative artists like Sarah McLachlan, Lana Del Rey, and Sara Bareilles. By the time he entered college, Jay had created a sound that truly expressed his identity. Rooted in the country music of his youth and driven by his love for confessional lyricism, Jay developed what he now calls"indie country" which he describes as Randy Travis singing a Sarah McLachlan song. Jay would like to thank his parents, friends, teachers, club brothers, and the specific musicians who have most inspired him: Dolly Parton, Carole King, Sarah McLachlan, Sara Bareilles, and Taylor Swift. From Jay,"I hope you love the music!"
