Silent Stirring - ExChillCafe
The curtains haven't found the strength to part
Just like the heavy beating of my heart
The kitchen tiles are cold beneath my feet
As the city wakes up on the morning street
I'm pouring water, slow and steady now
To start the day, I'm just not sure how
I find myself making enough for two
Adding the cream I know is meant for you
I set your mug upon the wooden grain
And watch the window gather streaks of rain
The house is silent, not a word is said
Except the echo spinning in my head
It's just a silent stirring in a ceramic cup
Waiting for a sun that hasn't quite come up
The coffee's warm but the air is thin
Letting the lonely feeling settle in
A little bit of sugar, a whole lot of blue
I'm still brewing love in a house without you
The steam is rising like a velvet lace
I try to find the ghost of your smiling face
In every swirl and every dark brown drop
I'm waiting for the ticking clock to stop
I take a sip and let the warmth take hold
Against a story that's already grown cold
I could call your name into the hallway air
But I know the answer is the empty chair
So I'll just sit here in the amber light
And wait for the morning to make it all right
It's just a silent stirring in a ceramic cup
Waiting for a sun that hasn't quite come up
The coffee's warm but the air is thin
Letting the lonely feeling settle in
A little bit of sugar, a whole lot of blue
I'm still brewing love in a house without you
Round and round the silver goes
Where the feeling ends, nobody knows
It's just a silent stirring
And a cup of you
