Porchlight on the East Side
I’ve got coffee cooling by the windowpane,
Morning traffic like a slow refrain.
You used to laugh at my “maybe someday,”
Now “someday” reads like yesterday.
And I don’t miss the storms we made,
But I miss how the rain felt safe.
Leave the porchlight on the east side,
Let it shine where the old streets bend.
If you’re ever lost in your own life,
Let it lead you back again.
I’m not waiting like I used to,
But I still believe in kind—
So I keep a porchlight on the east side,
For the parts of you that stayed behind.
I found our song in a thrift-store case,
Scratched up, but it still keeps pace.
I danced alone in the kitchen tiles,
Two minutes turning into miles.
And I’m learning how to let love go,
Without letting my heart turn cold.
Leave the porchlight on the east side,
Let it shine where the old streets bend.
If you’re ever lost in your own life,
Let it lead you back again.
I’m not waiting like I used to,
But I still believe in kind—
So I keep a porchlight on the east side,
Maybe we were just young hands
Trying to hold what time won’t hold.
But I can bless what didn’t last
And still keep my soul gold.
Leave the porchlight on the east side…
I’m not waiting like I used to,
But I still believe in kind—
So I keep a porchlight on the east side,
For the parts of you that stayed behind.
