We were listening to brad

Giving the answers to four questions about tescenters about memorizing model answers

Today we're going to have four more questions

We start with questionfive again a very frequently asked question by chinese candites

I spend a lot of time trying vocabuoriies

Advanced vocabulary

Using vocabulary lists 这were using long and difficult worworget get hihigher score

很多人会去背所谓更高级的更难的单词

But does it work will memorising some difficult or advanced words get to a higher score

Memorising vocabubulary is good good

You do have to use a bbof commcommsense se

Because you don't need to know how to say something five different ways especially send some vocabulary candidates use and have a correct for the situation one example that stands out

My memory is the use of collect and accumulate they have a similar meaning and can be interlegeable in a few cases

However a person collect something as a hobby

But we wouldn't say they accumulate stuff as a hobby

It would be better to use the basic vocabulary correctly than another word incorrectly another thing to remember is vocabulary is only one part of the exam grammar and using linking words is just as important

It would be better for a candidate to be able to continue a conversation with good grammar

Than to just use a lot of the vocabulary

That might be considered advanced vocabulary

Here bread pointed out one very important thing

It's not just about how many words you memorize

It's about how you can use them precisely appropriately

但是很多的时候问题在于究竟能不能在正确的语境里使用

而中文上看上去很恰当的词

在英文语境里其实并不能那么用

But actually that is not english

So just memorizing the world is not going to get you a higher score or make you sound more natural

You always have to learn how to use vocabulary insentences or in the correct context

We have seen this more frequently in the past few years

Why am i not getting a higher score

Taking the test twice within a month

Doesn't give a candidate enough time to improve their english level

It mainly take a few weeks to go from an ial's score of one to three

And a few more months to go from a three to a four or a five

However it could take a year to go from an ial's five to six

If the candidate is serious about studying

It might take another year to to get to a seven

Often times it takes emergent study to get to a have ven or higher realistically a candidate might improve by half a band

If they take the test twice in a month

And that is because they are more familiar with how the test works and what they should be doing

It is not really an improvement of their language ability

So for anyone out there

Who want to replace studying

Was just taking a test inseasonently again and again

This is not going to work

Like brad said twice a month you don't have enough time to improve

Is sometimes when students come to to

I'm five

But i need to get six point five

I only have two month

I will study very very hard

I usually just tell them no

You just won't be able to even if you study twenty four hours during those two month

It's not enough time that you can any training school or trainers are telling you

You can improve your score that quickly within a very short period of time are qukely to be exaggerating or even lying to you

So the most importortant thing here is to plan early and to have realistic goals

Because ials is a proficiency test

Like some of the chinese tests

The next question

This is something that often confuses or discourages candidates

If you read some of the comments or discussitions ons line line

You will see some candidates are lalainabout their

Their exiners interrupting them

When they're so speaking

我的考官好像很不客气的会打断我

是不是因为他很不耐烦

我需不需要投诉一下

So now let's hear the reasons behind those interruptions

Why do examiners interrupting my answer

There are three reasons in examiner would interrupt a candidate

The first is the timing of the test

Each section of the test has a specific amount of time

And the examiner has to ask all the questions within that time frame

So if your answer is too long

Then they have to interrupt and move to the next question

The second reason is that the candidate misunderstands the question for example

If the examiner asks the question

What are your responsibilities at work

Your abiliilities twtwk and the candidate talks about what

They think people should do to be responsible at work

The examiner should interrupt and asked the question

Again to give the candidate a chance to answer the question properly finally in part three

It is not just a question in a answer section

Like part one

It is more of a discussion

So after the candidate has talked a little bit about the topic

The examiner should interrupt and ask a question about something

They have just said this is to make sure

The candidate isn't just retelling a memorized answer

But can follow the conversation

Why an examiner interrupt you

If you can answer them spontaneously

And now we're coming to the last question

Question eight on this is my personal favorite

What are the clichde phres

Examiners just hate in elice speaking clichde phases means they're so overused

They're used by everyone and examiners

They listen to it again and again of them

And they just get sick and tired of them

Clichde phases what do examiners feel about them

Examiners ers hate anything that has to do with french windows or taking celfies with their besties and their food

Because they are foodies really anything that suns memorized

Will noy the examiner

Every examiner taught english at some point and those a difference between an answer that sounds memorized

And an answer that a thought of on the go remember iott is not a test of your memorization skills

But a test of your ability to use english

Part one is there to see who as a command of basic english

This includes even memorization

Part ty is there to see if you can speak for any amount of time and part three of the exam is set up

So the examiners can assess who can use english and who has just memorized

So so be careful

If you just want to impss ss the examer and trick them into thinking that you 're very natural

But in part three

This is where they can see your true language ability

You're true command of english

So to summaritest test like tofl or ilyes

They are not memorization test

Theynot knoknoledge test

Test

Their ficiency test

So you cannot fake it

You cannot pretend to be a higher level

So there are really no short cuts

So these eight questions or some of the most frequently asked questions by candidates and the insights from our enceful examiner
