And in particular the differences of our own experiences
So obviously ly lu went to school in china
I went to school in the uk
And i went university in uu
And i went to university in china
Because i didn't take part in goco though ok

I don't really have experience ence going through uk okay
And it sounds really high stike
It sounds really really stressful
Everything i've heard about 高考
Just sounds unbelieve ly stressful
Remember watching documentary in the uk

I just rememember seeing kids studying the entire tire night um preparing for gococoand john kcou
They study entire nights for three years years years years that obvisly in the uk
We revise for tests
We revise for exams
But it's no way near that

First of all online you kept repeating gocoa 高考a i've heard the translation of 高考is is college entrance exam or university entrance exam yeah
But i would say in most context
I've heard is normally gococo
We will say up that is a college entrance exam in china um
But then we will just say coco yeah
Because it's a very specific idea isn't

In the uk students would apply for universities
So you don't just have one test
You probably have multiple interviews same as many of the you know english speaking countries or western tritriyeah
So in the uk you choose about maybe five or six universe tries
And then they will interview you in most cases do you not have to do like a standardized test you have a level we do
But what it is
Is each of the universities
They will say okay
Will give you a conditional offer
Which means that you have to get these schools to come
Or if they really like you
They will give you an unconditional offer
Which means
No matter what you get
Will
Will let in
Oh
So you will apply for universities first
And then go through that a level test pretty much

There is something called clearing
Which is if someone doesn't get the results
They need for any other universities
Then they go through

They can select those i see

And she does some courses that don't have a final exam

I would say in the uk is mostly tutor in
So if someone has
You know someone comes from a richer background
They might get a tutor to help
Tutors are a can be quite expensive
They can be very very expensive
But it's not seen as normal or ordinary ve so for example if you have a tutor after at school
That's seen as onon't say unusual
But it's seen as definitely like a luxury
It's a luxury yeah
It's really like something every parent is doing

Because people simply cannot afford it
And i think it's very different
I know people have been saying for ages
The difference between educational system and all that
But the thing is i think given help the size of the population
And given the quite limited educational resources 高考
A is probably one of the more
I would say fairer options
Well Yeah
The thing is
The education service in any country

Is there to fit the needs of the country exact and of the students
So is you cannot say that one education system is better than another

Because every single countries experiences and how they see education
And what they use education for is completely different

It's also i remember we talked about this before students in the uk
If theare from a normal working class background
Because they don't get to learn things like laatn and cient greek yeah in school
So they have a lower chance of getting into the top
Top universities like oxspbrich
If you go to top schools
Then you got a better chance gain into oxforden cambridge

Now both of these universities have done a lot of world to try to balance
To make a bit favor um
But the simple fact matter is that competition for the top universities is still very very high

And there are some schools that do preparation causes

I've seen those every titest

I've seen like prep courses for oxford interviews

As soon as i said to you before i went to ooxford interview
But i didn't do any preparation
What's wehave
I didn't even know where to begin do you think if you would have done that you could have got into oxford um
Maybe it's difficult to really say to be honest
I wasn't really taken interview
Very seriously i didn't really want to go and to be honest
Because of my background you
You know come from a very ordinary background in the uki never thought that i would have a chance um sounds a little bit like you're selling yourself short to be honest
I probably self defeated myself

But i think before we wrap up
Like we really did not want to do this episode as a lecture

But i just want to say that i don't is easier said and duone
But a lot of the things in hindsight
It's not as make a break as you think it is yeah um
