Joseph, the Levite from Cyprus' shore
They called him Barnabas
Son of Encouragement
He watched the Spirit move
He saw the poor
And felt the weight
Of heaven's government
No field was worth more
Than the kingdom's call
So he laid the money
At the apostles' feet
One heart with his wife
They surrendered all
For love is never love
Till it's complete
They counted the cost
And called it gain
The world saw loss
But they saw Jesus' name
This is generosity
Not a portion, but the whole
Selling the ground beneath their feet
To feed another's soul
When no one made them
Still they gave
Till every need was met
Oh, the beautiful, reckless love
Of Barnabas and his wife
This is generosity
The church was young
And the hunger was real
Widows and orphans at every door
Barnabas remembered
How the Master healed
And said, "What's mine is the Lord's
And the Lord's is for the poor"
His wife stood beside him
No fear in her eyes
She kissed the deed
Goodbye without regret
Together they proved
That the gospel flies
On the wings of those who refuse
To forget
They held it loosely
This earthly store
For they had laid up treasure
On a higher shore Chorus
This is generosity
Not a portion, but the whole
Selling the ground beneath their feet
To feed another's soul
When no one made them
Still they gave
Till every need was met
Oh, the beautiful, reckless love
Of Barnabas and his wife
This is generosity
Years later Paul would
Write their story down
A quiet line in Acts
But heaven roared
One couple's yes still
Echoes through the town
The church still lives
Because they loved the Lord
If we have anything
That we call "mine"
We haven't understood
The cross we bear
The widow's two coins
Still shame our bottom line
True riches are only
What we give from here
This is generosity
Lord, teach us to let go
Open our hands, empty our lands
Till everyone can know
That Your kingdom comes
When Your people give
Like Barnabas and his wife
Break our hearts
With what breaks Yours
And make us come alive
This is generosity
This is generosity
Jesus, make us generous
Like Barnabas and his wife
