They charted it as absence not as land
where coastlines loosen unlearn the hand
where latitudes renounce their claim
and distance sharpens into name
No harbor holds no promise stays
the sea forgets familiar ways
Each current learns a calm retreat
each wave declines the chance to meet
Above it borrowed breath goes by
stitched into dark orbital light
closer than voices that remain
yet sworn to never fall or land
She knows this calculus of space:
how longing grows when left untraced
how precision dresses as relief
how far can almost feel like belief
Some days she wants that sanctioned blue
where nothing asks her to be true
to shine to stay to take a name
where solitude feels chosen sane
Some days all skin becomes a shore
each question sounds like wanting more
and more dissolves her careful seams
into a threat she doesn’t need
Still
there’s gravity she can’t refuse
a need for weight for something rude
enough to pull to interrupt
the art of staying untouched
This is not fear
This is a vow:
the furthest logic oceans allow
that want survives without reply
that need can starve and still not die
She wants the flare and wants the veil
to burn to blur to fail to stay;
to be observed then wiped from view
a star no chart can ever prove
So if she drifts where access ends
where every route forgets its bend
know this the loneliest decree
is not the sea’s extremity
but the heart
that chooses maximum of space
and still listens out of place
for steps that won’t compute their way
but fall
by accident
by grace
