The House Is Warm Again - Mikhail Bennett
There was a chair that no one used
The table set for one
The clock kept counting lonely nights
Long after they were gone
Desk covered old photographs
The fireplace burned low
Every room remembered them
Though no one came back home
I asked the Lord a thousand times
If broken things could mend
He answered with his silence
Until the very end
Then one knock changed everything
The door I thought was closed
The house is warm again
There's laughter in these old walls
Little footsteps down the hallway
Where silence used to fall
There's another place at my table
Another prayer before we eat
God turned this empty house
Into a home complete
I thought I'd lost forever
Whatever only borrowed then
The house is warm again
My son stood there with weary eyes
More like me than before
He didn't need to say much
His tears unlocked the door
Beside him stood his faithful wife
Holding heaven in her hands
A little boy reached out to me
Like he'd always known this man
He wrapped his tiny fingers
Around this weathered hand
And every year between us
Fell quietly to the ground
The house is warm again
Christmas lights don't help this year
The old piano found its song
When once it left my fear
Every room is filled with mercy
Every window shines with grace
God didn't just restore my family
He restored this place
Amazing how one little voice
Can silence years of pain
Amazing how one answered prayer
Can wash away the rain
I spent years asking God
Why did you let them leave
Now I thank him every morning
Because he never stopped working on me
The house is warm again
Not because the past is gone
But because forgiveness found
The place where love belongs
My son's beside the fire
My grandsons in my arms
The empty chair is empty still
But heaven fills my heart
If someone asks what miracles look like
I won't point toward the sky
I'll point towards this old house
Where God turned tears into laughter
And brought my family home
The house is warm again
The house is warm again
