My heart returned from battles no one saw
A field of broken fences jagged straw
The soil was thick with grief and quiet awe
Of all the wasted courage all the raw
You knelt among the ruins without fear
Your hands in dirt your eyes divinely clear
You said “This land can bloom just leave it here ”
And planted hope like seeds behind my ear
We watered every memory with care
Allowed the wounded ground to breathe fresh air
Soon little leaves began to blossom there
Defying every whispered old despair
So if the cannons echo from the past
And ghosts of old collisions gather fast
I’ll walk beside you through the smoky floor
And trust your grace to garden after war
