She never left though all else changed
The seasons turned the world rearranged
She stood outside our weathered door
A tree that roots and asks no more
She bore the winds the years the snow
So I could leave so I could grow
She bent beneath my weight and will
Yet held me up and holds me still
Her bark is scarred her leaves are thin
But she has homes for birds within
Her shade remains when I return
A place where every silence learns
One day Ill grow my branches wide
So she may rest beneath their pride
For all the storms she stood alone
Let my heart be her resting stone
