Highway Ten - The SleepWalkers
Written by:Chris Martin
Drivin' to Bakersfield late one night just
Me and my baby drivin' to my hearts' delight
Let's go through Barstow where the action's at
But baby turned to me said
You can't do it like that
Now I've been drivin' three crazy hours
Know where I've been
Out on some Highway they call Highway 10
Done a lot of things twice
One thing I ain't gonna do again
Spend my time out on Highway 10
Now all this drivin' around goin' from town to town
Got my head a splittin'
Got my patience wearing down
I've been to these parts once or twice
But I never liked L.A.
It ain't never been nice to me
Now this time is taking too damn long
Sorry baby this time you were wrong
For some people it's a way of life
To me it's just a sin
To spend my time out on Highway 10
Now lots of people like this southern California
Looks invitin' but I'm gonna have to warn you
They say L.A. glitters and all that glitters is gold
But I never did buy it man that story's too old
Don't look behind you when you're passin' through
Somebody's table salt gonna look just like you
Some people like it and I know just where they've been
Stuck with me out little on Highway 10
They've got Disneyland and knott's Berry farm
And a motion picture studio with a shark that'll do no harm
And if you're smart while you hop on the bus
'Cause saving twenty minutes of your day is just a must
Pasadena's got some lame parade
And long beach is home to the Queen Mary
But compared to this place well even Barstow's a hit
'Cause man if you have to you can get out quick
Highway 5 to Bakersfield ain't that great
So says that sign baby and not a moment too late
This little trip's got me so upset
It's the kind of bad luck anybody can get
I've got just enough cash to get my a** out
And now you know what my smiling is all about
And on my death-bed Mr. preacher's gonna grin sayin'
Son you're bound to heaven
You done been on Highway 10
