The Burnt Painting
I walk the streets where we once used to be
The subway stops keep haunting me
I reach for things that can’t be mine
Lost in the dark, I’m wasting time
The frame is gone, the colors turned to ash
The fire took every flash
But in my mind, it still remains
The love that time can never erase
You were the paint upon my soul
The fire came, but couldn’t take it whole
The world outside may fade and fray
But what’s true still lights my way
This burnt painting, it’s all I have left
Scorched and broken, but not undone yet
The flames can’t burn what’s in my chest
Forever lives inside my head
I wander through the empty night
Chasing ghosts of faded light
I thought the fire turned love to dust
But it was there all along in us
The smoke may cloud the broken glass
But memories outlast
Every crack and every scar
You’re still here, no matter where you are
This burnt painting, it’s all I have left
Scorched and broken, but not undone yet
The flames can’t burn what’s in my chest
Forever lives inside my head
Even the fire can’t destroy
The part of you I keep inside
The ash will fall, the wind will rest
My heart holds what the fire never blessed
This burnt painting, it’s all I have left
Scorched and broken, but not undone yet
The flames can’t burn what’s in my chest
Forever lives inside my head
