My own sound - KMurdock Music Group
Morning breaks through curtains I forgot to close
Colors paint the walls where only gray used to show
Breakfast tastes like something more than obligation
Every breath connects me to a new sensation
The mirror shows a stranger who looks like me
But the eyes are clearer than they used to be
Yesterday's a ghost that doesn't haunt these halls
Tomorrow's calling out beyond these bedroom walls
I put my feet on floors that feel more solid now
The weight that crushed my shoulders somehow lifted out
These hands that couldn't move are reaching for the day
Finding strength in moments that I threw away
I'm climbing up from underground
Every step's a victory sound
The world's still turning, I'm still here
Breaking through another year
These scars are maps of where I've been
But they don't tell me where I'm heading
I'm climbing up from underground
Finally hearing my own sound
Phone calls don't feel heavy like they did before
Friends are more than voices on the other shore
Laughter isn't foreign in this throat of mine
Small talk flows like water, not like bitter wine
The sun feels warm instead of burning skin
Fresh air fills these lungs that locked the poison in
Walking past the places where I used to hide
Seeing all the beauty that I once denied
Music hits different when you're not afraid
Colors shine brighter when you're not in shade
Every little moment holds a tiny spark
Building constellations from the smallest part
I'm climbing up from underground
Every step's a victory sound
The world's still turning, I'm still here
Breaking through another year
These scars are maps of where I've been
But they don't tell me where I'm heading
I'm climbing up from underground
Finally hearing my own sound
Some days still feel heavy, but heavy doesn't mean the end
Some nights still get lonely, but morning always comes again
Writing down the good things that I couldn't see
Making peace with versions of my history
Therapy and time have taught me how to bend
Without completely breaking at the bitter end
The medication helps, but it's not everything
Learning how to dance when I forgot to sing
Building up my life one careful brick by brick
Finding out that healing isn't just a trick
Gratitude for simple things I overlooked
Opening the pages of a long-closed book
This is not a fairy tale with perfect days
But it's mine and I'm learning all the different ways
I'm climbing up from underground
Every step's a victory sound
The world's still turning, I'm still here
Breaking through another year
These scars are maps of where I've been
But they don't tell me where I'm heading
I'm climbing up from underground
Finally hearing my own sound
