In her heart, she

Streetlights stretch shadows endlessly
Keys turn in the memory of an empty room
The radio croons the sorrows of the nineties
Suddenly I recall the moonlight in your eyes
Butterfly specimens in drawers cease to fly
Like the abrupt end of a rainy alley's melody
An old shirt still holds the scent of mint and tobacco
Bubbles in a soda bottle fade silently
She is the frost that melts by my window
The teardrops that blur the end of a letter
The sound of a clock turning backwards
The world forgets but I still look back
She is the ship stranded in my dreams
The eternal goodnight at the edge of the universe
When all the stars fall into the Pacific
She remains warm in the deepest part of my heart
(Piano and strings weave the folds of time)
Subway tunnels swallow faded promises
Glass walls reflect a thousand versions of me
One dusk the automatic doors of a convenience store open and close
Wind chimes sway as if you were passing by
She is the missing rhyme in my poetry
The imaginary oasis at the end of the desert
When all migratory birds cease their southern journey
Her name becomes a palm line rusting with time
Raindrops hang three centimeters above the ground
A busy signal echoes from an old phone booth
I sink with fragments of memory
Reuniting with you in every era
She is the wound that never heals
The gentle collapse on the back of my soul
When the world enters its twenty-thousandth dusk
I still wait for a turn at some street corner
