Shadows in the Crema - ExChillCafe
The clock is ticking in a house of stone
The morning calls for a heart alone
I watch the water hit the coffee grounds
The only life in here is making sounds
I'm leaning on the counter, waiting for the bloom
While the scent of dark roast fills the empty room
I remember how you liked the foam on top
I'd swirl the spoon and never wanna stop
The way we'd talk until the pot ran dry
Underneath a pale and hazy morning sky
But now the sunlight has a different hue
It's missing the golden reflection of you
And I'm seeing shadows in the crema, dark and deep
Chasing after promises we couldn't keep
The coffee's warm but it's a lonely glow
Watching all the memories come and go
A spoonful of sugar, a gallon of blue
Still finding the bitter in the thought of you
I find a smudge of lipstick on the rim
The light in here is growing soft and dim
I take a seat in our favorite corner nook
Pretending to read a dusty old book
But every sip is a "how have you been?"
Waking up the feelings I've been hiding
Maybe the steam is a bridge to the past
To a beautiful morning that wasn't to last
I'm breathing it in, I'm letting it go
While the shadows dance, nice and slow
Yeah, I'm seeing shadows in the crema, dark and deep
Chasing after promises we couldn't keep
The coffee's warm but it's a lonely glow
Watching all the memories come and go
A spoonful of sugar, a gallon of blue
Still finding the bitter in the thought of you
The cup is dry
The shadows stay
I'll brew another
And face the day
