So i've been following some news in the uk

Absolutely one of the things in the uk

Is that journ has locked down period

Weve acactually very very good weather

Because you can't go outside

But you can go to the garden

Lots of english people

Lots of people in britain

They do you actually have their own garden um

And britain is a nation that really loves this garden

Let's talk about that today

So you mentioned about loving gardens

We actually have a particular term for going around the garden

We would say porter around the garden

Potter like harry potter yep

What does that mean you go as harry potter in the garden

It's basically you go around the garden

And you do a little bit of like gardening work

So having a potter around the garden

Literally means you go in the garden

You have a little bit a walk around

You sit there

You maybe pick a few debt leams s ve ar up little bit

I always find it interesting is that you know as a city girl

And i'm a complete city girl

I didn't grow up with a garden

So for me gardening seems to be a very old people

Well we do because to have a good garden

We germany need time and let's face icof when you're retire

You do have a lot more free time um

But gardening or enjoying gardens is not necessarily just older people and of all ages also do work in the garden

And would you say that british people generally take pride in that very much

So so you notice that houses in the uk

Would have a front garden and also a larger backgarden

No people don't we write too much about the front garden

But they do you try to keep it tidy

But it's the larger backgarden

The private space that people do you focus a lot more on

And generally how big are we talking about ah they can be in all time suedes ii seen gardens h abso huge

I remember my grandmother 's garden

And she lived outside of london

And that was enormous

And i remember been six or seven years old

And it just seemed to go on for miles

Three hundred square meters

That's a lot of work

But also you have some gardens like for example the house where i grew up in london

That garden was probably about maybe seven meters by four meters okay

And that's only a have have law in the uka lots of people have barbecue in the summer

And i've noticed that generally british gardens also have a shit yeah and 工具房

And you put all your tools in um

And some people they have something called it zzebo

So a zebo is basically like a little pavilion

So you have a roof

But around it don't no walls

And when i visit people's houses in britain

I know you guys barbecue in the garden

What else do you usually do in the garden

Growing up

Um when knows a young child probably play in the garden

Now i might go and sit in the garden

Uh read if the weather is nice

I might just have my lunch

Shw my breakfast

Have a coffee outside

Um do you also hang your washing out in the garden

Most gardens will have a washing line

But that is quite risky isisn't it the weweather in in the uk

Then you go out

And you left your washing out in the garden

There's a few times just happened i was remember

When i was going up

When i was washing outmy mum would always tell me keep ep eye on weather

And as soon as it starts cloudy in over soon as it starts to rain

I got to run out very quickly

And get all of washing back in

Ah so generally just enjoy your garden

Yep do you get visited by wild lives like birds and maybe squirls

Because when i was in germany

The gardens they always have squirrels ing in

Oh Yeah

Lots of people

People to encourage these animals comcome into the gardens

How do you encourage them for example

You'd use bird feeder with food

Yeah ok

And then they will come in

And then

But you can't keep them right

No no

What you do is it's very very common in the uk

But you get a bird feeder or a bird table um

And you leave food on the bird table

So so the idea is that encourage ous birth to come into the garden and squols well probably less squols

They're seen as a little bit like pests in the uk

Oh Really

But y're so cute

Oh

Am i quite schools

But a lot of people don't

And also you sometimes get bigger wild life

As well you get foxes

Foxes yeah can come into your garden

Yeah sounds a bit scary

Not really scary

Because foxes are a little bit weiry of people um the only problem with foxes is that when they're fighting or when they call in

They sound absolutely wful

It sounds like a baby screamen

Oh

That's what i was hearing sometimes late at night

When i was staying in london

Yeah okay

So you don't necessarily want them in your garden

No no not

Moving on to garden work

You said there's a lot of work to be done

What are they planting flowers for example

Yeah

So for example you would so seat

And then are you dig up wheat 啊

Or weed the garden

You have to move the lawn as well

Ers do people hire gardeners to do that professional people they do if they got a really big garden

Or if they're quite wealthy

But most people just do it themselves

Because it's quite expensive to get their own gardener um

And also a lot of people if they do like the garten

They like that feeling of doing it themselves

Uh spend the whole day in the sun

Doing garden work yeah

Of course you have to water the plant the flowers

Where do people get all these things in the supermarket

But you can get them in the supermarket

All you can go to garden centres

Garden centers

These are centres specifically focusing on gardens

Yep they normally very very larthey

Normally filled with plans

Filled with ornaments

Pretty much anything you need for garden work

Ornaments are these decorations yeah

Like little rabbits

Little all as well or knoms as well

You see them all the time in movies and tv all right

Even though that i'm not in in gardens

But even i know that there re's some world famous garden shows

For example

Chelsea all right elsea flower show is very very popular

And is actually one of those things

Where even the roal family get involved

So like prince charles would actually take part in the contest as well

So it's a competition is not just exposition

You actually competing you for the top price

And the idea is that you design this very small little patch

Which is your garden

And you can go into any sort style

I see if you're really interesting gardens

The best place to go would be q gardens

Q gardens is that the name of the garden

I remember hearing it vagly q is a place in west london

It's a really really nice part of london

And

And they have a huge area call q gardens

And it's a potanical garden

There are a lot of idioms low relating to garden ups you loads

Is that feeling when someone has better than you

Whatever you're doing is not as good as something else

Like you said it's that you always think what you have is not as good as what
