Along the bank small lights set sail
Each flame a wish each hope a tale;
The maple limbs above the flow
Conduct the hymns that hearts bestow
They drift through fog they kiss the reeds
They mirror love in simple deeds;
No band no stage no guiding hand
Yet harmony fills all the land
I kneel to place one ember more
For friends unseen for peace in war;
The river swallows none in vain
Each spark returns as gentle rain
By morning only ash remains
Yet scent of faith in air sustains;
And what was prayer though faint though brief—
Has lit the dark beyond belief
