Steam rises like remembered grace
Through window glass of autumn place;
Two cups rehearse an old refrain
The comfort brewed from loss and gain
We stir the sugar not the past
Let bitterness dissolve at last;
A heart forgives through cinnamon
And finds its peace begun again
Outside the red trees watch and nod
Approving silence more than laud;
For talk is easy stillness art—
To listen well refines the heart
When parting hour softens air
We leave no promise just a prayer;
May kindness steep beyond the door
And friendship bloom once more once more
