Ellas teacup - Soul Blues Icon
Ella had a teacup cracked on the side
Sat by the window with nothing to hide
She'd pour a story in every pour
Of the man who left through that old screen door
She said he loved me till the bottle did
And kissed the rim like it held their kids
She'd sip slow, talk sweet and low
About a love that died so long ago
Ella's teacup chipped and small
Held more sorrow than the china on the wall
She never cried, just sipped and spoke
Of the vows that faded like chimney smoke
Her hair turned silver, her hands turned still
But her tea stayed warm on the windowsill
Kids walked by, never understood
Why her stories were stronger than blood
Sometimes love don't need to last
To make a shadow that forever cast
She said a broken cup still pours what's true
And I swear I learned more from her than school
Ella's teacup chipped and small
Held more sorrow than the china on the wall
She never cried, just sipped and spoke
Of the vows that faded like chimney smoke
