Sunflowers
By: 王登顺
I was a seed in the cool dark loam
A quiet heart without a home
Then a whisper came a golden sound
You were the sun that warmed the ground
You taught my leaves how to unfold
A story in my veins you told
And I will turn my face to the light
Through the longest day the deepest night
A silent clock of gold and green
A captive of your radiant scene
Oh I am bending never free
But what a glorious prison to be
I wear the summer like a crown
My yellow heart beats up and down
I trace your path across the blue
Drinking the fire and the dew
And when the shadows start to creep
I bow my head secrets to keep
And I will turn my face to the light
Through the longest day the deepest night
A silent clock of gold and green
A captive of your radiant scene
Oh I am bending never free
But what a glorious prison to be
Then autumn comes with a colder kiss
A moment of forgotten bliss
My head grows heavy full of time
A life committed a silent rhyme
The world may see a faded beam
I’ll hold the memory of the gleam
And when I’m just a brittle spine
A blackened face a broken line
I’ll scatter seeds where I once stood
In hopeful clusters in the wood
For every one will know the art
Of turning toward you heart to heart
