I was a silent canvas, void and stark
Awaiting the first, primordial spark
Then from the darkness, a voice started to call
And with a violent brushstroke, gave feeling to all
The first stroke burned, a Yellow promise of creation's might
A scream of Canary against the endless night
But this new joy was twisted, born of youthful ire
As Lime Green's acid envy set my new world on fire
I was ignited, born into a war of shade and light
A universe of feeling, blinding and too bright
Then came the second stroke, a wash of gentle peace
Sky Blue's soft breath, a whisper of release
It promised that the tranquil tide of Sea Green on the sand
Would cool the fires of my youth, in this new, quiet land
But in this calm, a fragile, longing strand began to grow
Wisteria's soft, nostalgic memory of a pain I used to know
Behold the spectrum of my soul's design!
A twisted tapestry, both grim and divine
Each shade a battle, every line a sign
Of the epic war that I define
From blinding joy to sorrow's chill
My colors clash and bleed and spill
The third stroke came, a passion deep and vast
A flood of Scarlet where the heart must leap, a shadow has been cast
It overwrote the gentle blue, a fierce and deadly throe
As Saffron's sensual, golden haze made seeds of sorrow grow
A lover's promise Ruby could not keep, a vital, burning need
That murdered the soft peace I knew with its destructive creed
The Green of nature fought the Red of lust
The Blue of solace fought the Gold of trust
My early joy of Yellow now was tainted by the strife
I was a battlefield of color, the story of a life
For every shade of comfort, a shade of madness grew
A war between the old me, and the one I'm turning to
The fourth stroke fell, ambition cold and vast
A reign of Black, beneath indifferent skies, the die was truly cast
It choked the vibrant passions, in its cold and final hold
And built a mask of hollow, empty Gold
My freedom died behind that mask, my colors locked inside
In Mahogany's cold comfort, where my true self had to hide
The fourth stroke fell, ambition cold and vast
A reign of Black, a shadow has been cast
It choked the vibrant passions, with Royal Blue authority
And built a mask of hollow, empty Gold for all the world to see
My freedom died inside that cage of Emerald spies
In Mahogany's cold comfort, built on elegant, cold lies
But gilded cages cannot hold a soul that must be free
A will that won't conform, for all the world to see!
I tore the canvas from within, in a blast of Chartreuse light
A modern, sharp, Cobalt decree to reclaim my own right!
I found a shelter from the norm in Petrol Blue's deep ambiguity
And screamed in Olive Drab's wild plea my non-conformity!
I was the coming of the storm, a new and vibrant form!
The thrones collapsed, the bold new colors bleed, a world undone and torn
My black conformity, my scarlet greed, a landscape newly born
I watch the battle of my every deed, of every binding thorn
And in the chaos, plant a final seed, both sorrowful and sworn
But canvas cannot be erased, only painted over, layer after layer
And in the final, fading light, the edges start to blur
The Midnight Blue abyss consumes the sight, where only thoughts can stir
Until the painter's final stroke, a silent, soft demur
Is Indigo's deep wisdom, accepting all I ever were
A finished work of art... a beautiful disaster... a scar
