A quiet world of hearts turned gray
No whispers warm to light the day
The stars above hang cold and still
A hollow echo
Love’s last will
The poets sigh
Their voices dry
Their verses fall like empty sky
In strangers’eyes no flicker burns
A page unturned that never learns
Oh when did hearts start wearing chains
Bound by doubts and endless pains
What’s left of fire when it won’t ignite
A shadow lingers through the night
The wind it howls through frozen trees
No songs of yearning ride the breeze
Each hand withdrawn
Each door held shut
The feeling lost
The thread’s been cut
But in the dark a flame can grow
A single spark to fight the snow
Perhaps the day will yet arise
To see the dawn in tender eyes
Oh when did hearts start wearing chains
Bound by doubts and endless pains
What’s left of fire when it won’t ignite
A shadow lingers through the night
