When The Cameras Fade
Boots on the ground but just for show
He walks the streets he used to not know
Shaking hands in borrowed rain
Wearing stories he can't explain
Smiles wide, rehearsed and neat
In places where he rarely sets his feet
Photos flash, he’s “one of us”
Riding trucks and making a fuss
But once the last vote's been cast
He’s gone like smoke, retreating fast
He knew our names when he needed praise
But forgets our streets in brighter days
When the cameras fade, so does his face
Trading truth for a throne in a higher place
He wore our pain like a ribbon one night
Now he lives where we’re out of sight
Promised bridges, promised aid
Written speeches finely made
But silence follows every plea
Once he’s crowned in victory
Every hug became a tactic
Every tear, a photo dramatic
When the cameras fade, so does his face
Trading truth for a throne in a higher place
He wore our pain like a ribbon one night
Now he lives where we’re out of sight
Where are the roads you said you'd pave?
The clinics, the jobs, the future you gave?
We kept the words you lost the way
A ghost in gold, too far to stay
In our darkest times, we called your name
But only slogans ever came
When the lights go out, truth reappears
Your promises dissolve with the years
You climbed on shoulders, then forgot the ground
But every lie you spoke still echoes around
You only showed up when it served you right
But we were here long after your spotlight
