Here we go again, it’s that time of year
I see the humans coming, oh dear
They’ve got their knives and carving tools
Why do they think this is cool?
They scoop me out and cut my face
Another year, another disgrace
I used to be whole, round and neat
Now I’m stuck with a jagged grin and missing teeth
I’m just a pumpkin, what can I do?
You’ll carve me up, that’s nothing new
Every year, I lose my pride
But guess I’ll just take it all in stride
I’m just a pumpkin, plain and bright
Now I’m a lantern, glowing in the night
Though I don’t love it, here’s my fate
Carve me up—can’t change my state
Remember last year? The triangle eyes
And that crooked smile—what a surprise!
You think it’s fun, but I’m not impressed
I’d rather stay whole, I must confess
They scoop me out and cut me thin
Stick in a candle, let the games begin
But I don’t glow, I just sigh
Waiting for the night to pass me by
I’m just a pumpkin, what can I do?
You’ll carve me up, that’s nothing new
Every year, I lose my pride
But guess I’ll just take it all in stride
I’m just a pumpkin, plain and bright
Now I’m a lantern, glowing in the night
Though I don’t love it, here’s my fate
Carve me up—can’t change my state
Oh, if I could, I’d turn the tide
Make all humans run and hide
I’d lead a pumpkin army in the night
With glowing faces, shining bright
But here I sit, no arms, no legs
I can’t fight back, all I do is beg
So carve away, I’ll grin and bear
I guess that life’s just not that fair
I’m just a pumpkin, what can I do?
You’ll carve me up, that’s nothing new
Every year, I lose my pride
But guess I’ll just take it all in stride
I’m just a pumpkin, plain and bright
Now I’m a lantern, glowing in the night
Though I don’t love it, here’s my fate
Carve me up—can’t change my state
They say it’s tradition, but I don’t know why
I could’ve been a pie or in a stew, oh my!
Now thanks to you, I’m just a decoration
Sitting here in spooky isolation
So here I am, candle inside
A spooky face I cannot hide
I’m tired of this pumpkin plight
Just want to enjoy the autumn night
But carve me out or leave me whole
Either way, I’ve played my role…
