Well I was born in the heart of Dundee
Where the streets were stone
And the nights ran free
Barefoot summers and coal-fire skies
We were poor, but oh, we were alive
At 11, I met the love of my days
Catherine smiled in a thousand ways
Never looked back, never looked around
We found our heaven on common ground
Now I'm eighty years and standing strong
With a heart that still knows where it belongs
Through the highs and lows and the pouring rain
We built a life through joy and pain
From Scotland's shore to England's land
We held each other hand in hand
And I thank the stars
As I look back in time
For Catherine's love
And these children of mine
Gary's laughter, Lorry's light
Stacey's heart shining ever so bright
Three good souls, my blood, my pride
They made the fight worth every stride
In '78 we packed our things
Left behind our highland dreams
To find a better life down south
With trembling hope in a working mouth
There were nights when money was tight
When dreams got lost in the middle of fights
But Catherine's arms were always there
Turning struggle into care
She's my first word in the morning sun
The last before each day is done
And every wrinkle on this skin of mine
Is a map of love we left behind
Now I'm eighty years
And standing strong
With a heart that still knows
Where it belongs
Through the highs and lows
And the pouring rain
We built a life through joy and pain
From Scotland's shore
To England's land
We held each other hand in hand
And I thank the stars
As I look back in time
For Catherine's love and these children of mine
So here's to the memories
Hard and sweet
To every tear and dancing beat
To the Sunday roasts
And Saturday walks
To quiet glances and firelit talks
Here's to eighty years I wouldn't trade
To love that never once did fade
And if I could walk it all once more
I'd choose the same path as before
For Catherine, my heart
And this family of mine
I'll walk those 500 miles every time
