Everybody's wihnd in a borrowed direction
Passing through branches without an intention
Brush one leaf, lift one page from the pavement
Turn it twice, let it fall where the day went
No monument, no permanent mark
Just a brief little shift in the shade of the park
I used to think leaving meant leaving a sign
Now I like how the breeze never asks to be mine
We cross one room, cross one life, cross one afternoon
Touch a sleeve, change a thought, then we're gone too soon
Maybe that's all, maybe that's more than enough
A soft little movement through somebody's stuff
We are wihnd
We arrive, we move, we leave
Shake a leaf, roll some paper down the street
No grand trace, no need to remain
Just pass through softly and become air again
We are wihnd
Nothing here is ours to keep
I close my eyes and let it move across my cheek
If all I leave is one small motion in the trees
That's enough for me
Some blow warm, some blow cold, some come with rain
Some cross a window and never come back the same
Some carry perfume, dust, salt from the sea
Some barely touch anything anyone sees
Still every current keeps slipping away
No hand can hold it, no name makes it stay
I think we're like that, moving through one another
A word in the morning, a memory after
Maybe I changed one angle of somebody's day
Maybe I moved one worry a few inches away
Maybe I did nothing that anyone knew
The wihnd doesn't count what the wihnd gets to do
It doesn't look back at the branch that it bent
Doesn't ask if the paper remembers where it went
It moves because moving is all that it knows
Then thins into nowhere wherever it goes
We are wihnd
We arrive, we move, we leave
Shake a leaf, roll some paper down the street
No grand trace, no need to remain
Just pass through softly and become air again
We are wihnd
Nothing here is ours to keep
I close my eyes and let it move across my cheek
If all I leave is one small motion in the trees
That's enough for me
So I stop asking how much of me will remain
Stop carving my name into places and days
The world was turning long before I came through
It'll keep turning when I disappear from view
That's not sadness
That's relief
I can be light
I can be brief
One quiet gust through an open afternoon
One cool line of air in a sun-warmed room
A curtain may rise, a few branches may sway
Then everything settles and goes on its way
I stand in the breeze with my eyes gently closed
No future to grip, no past to impose
It passes through me, and I pass through it too
For a moment
Nothing needs to stay
We are wihnd
We arrive, we move, we leave
Shake a leaf, roll some paper down the street
No grand trace, no need to remain
Just pass through softly and become air again
We are wihnd
I close my eyes and breathe
If all I leave is one small motion in the trees
That's enough for me
