The swings still creak where shadows play
On clouds of dreams from yesterday
The tether snaps the kite won’t rise
The echo fades the sun complies
The hopscotch squares are cracked and worn
The sidewalk chalk by rain was torn
Hide and seek left ghosts in the breeze
The laughter’s locked without the keys
A childhood lost in gentle hues
The light grows dim the sky turns bruise
I reach but time won’t let me hold
What’s left is warm but growing cold
The slide burns red from summers past
A carousel spins memories fast
The woods where secrets stitched our hearts
Are silent now they fell apart
The sandbox tales carved in the sand
The pirate ships we’d shape by hand
I build a castle out of pain
And see it crumble in the rain
A childhood lost in gentle hues
The light grows dim the sky turns bruise
I reach but time won’t let me hold
What’s left is warm but growing cold
